HeaterSphere exists to help people heat their homes safely and affordably. This policy explains how we choose topics, research and write our guides, choose products, use AI tools, and correct mistakes, so you can judge how far to rely on what you read here.

Who is behind the content

Our guides are published under Daniel Mercer, HeaterSphere’s Home Heating Research Editor and the editorial persona who represents the site’s voice and standards. The persona’s principle guides every article: useful heating advice should be clear, evidence-based, and honest about what it can and cannot establish.

How we choose topics

We write about the questions people actually ask about heating their homes: which heater suits a particular room, what a heater costs to run, how to stop a draft, why an appliance has stopped working. We look at what readers search for and which questions existing pages fail to answer, and we avoid publishing several near-identical pages on the same question.

How we research

We base our guides on sources that can be checked, in roughly this order of weight:

1. manufacturer specifications, manuals and installation instructions;
2. product safety listings and guidance from recognised bodies, such as UL, Intertek (ETL) and CSA listings, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, ENERGY STAR, and the UK’s Electrical Safety First;
3. established technical references on heating, insulation and energy use;
4. the leading published guides on the same question, which we read to find what they miss.

Running costs are calculated from stated wattages, hours and electricity rates, and we show the assumptions so you can repeat the sum with your own tariff.

How we choose products

• Fit for the exact need. A guide to queen-size heated blankets recommends queen-size blankets; a guide to propane garage heaters recommends propane heaters. Accessories, spare parts and products that do not match the question are excluded.
• Safety features and listings. We favour products with recognised safety listings and features such as tip-over switches, overheat protection and automatic shut-off.
• Clear, published specifications. We describe only features the manufacturer or retailer states.
• A useful range. Where it helps, picks cover different budgets, room sizes and priorities, and we say who should skip each one.

We do not physically test products in a lab, and we do not claim personal experience we do not have. Our recommendations are based on specifications, safety features and published documentation.

Our use of AI

We use AI tools to help research, draft and update articles. Every article is checked against our editorial rules before publication: no invented testing or experience, no product prices, no health claims, no specifications the product data does not support, and clear safety warnings where a topic needs them. Figures such as running costs are calculated, not left to the AI. AI assistance does not replace accountability: we correct errors as soon as we know about them.

Independence, affiliate links and advertising

HeaterSphere earns money from display advertising and affiliate commissions, including as an Amazon Associate. No company pays to be included in a guide or to be ranked higher, and commissions never decide a recommendation. Advertisers have no influence over our content. Affiliate relationships are explained in our Disclaimer.

Safety content

Heating involves real risks: fire, electric shock and carbon monoxide. Our guides never recommend plugging a space heater into an extension cord or power strip, running an unvented fuel-burning heater in a sleeping area, or bypassing safety devices. Where a job requires a qualified professional, such as gas, wiring, venting or water heater work, we say so plainly.

Keeping guides up to date

We revisit guides when products are discontinued or change, when safety guidance is updated, and when search data shows readers are not finding the answer they came for. Buying guides are reviewed before and during the heating season. The date shown on an article is the date it was last updated.

Corrections

If you find an error, email contact@heatersphere.com with “Correction” in the subject line and the address of the page. We review every report. When a correction changes a recommendation, a safety point or a significant fact, we update the page promptly.
